Expanding Community through Service

Muniratu lives in Angwan Television, in Kaduna. She conducted the Family Volunteer for Peace (FVP) Project to visit two neighboring families of persons with disabilities with food and training materials with Rosemary, her sister.

Prior to the delivery and training date, the sisters visited the families to discuss the needs and services. They went shopping for the donation items and Rosemary joined in to pack the food. The family helped in the various stages of planning, visiting, distribution and training.  During their visits to the families, they trained them on how to make liquid soap for income and distributed raw food items.

The joy and gratitude in the faces of the families they visited and donated was an enriching experience that made them very happy and fulfilled.

Rosemary said that the experience was an adventure and at the same time fulfilling to see the smiles on the faces of the families. She hopes to encourage other families to embark on their own Family Volunteer for Peace (FVP) project.

Muniratu felt fulfilled when she put smiles on the families faces especially because they were able to share a sustainable source of income. Teaching a woman to “fish” will feed her family for a lifetime. Income generation capacity lifts a heavy burden and gives some sense of belonging.

The family would like to visit more families that may need help especially families with persons living with disability. They would also more importantly encourage other families to get involved in the family volunteer for peace initiative.

Muniratu and her family’s FVP project expanded a sense of community to include local families with disabled people. Their impact shows that FVP can promote peace in our communities.

We are thankful to Muniratu for having taken up the challenge!
